Your Character
In 9Dragons you will be able to play
the role of a fantastic character with unique characteristics and undetermined
potential. You can generate up to three of these characters and customize them
as you wish.
When you create a new character you will choose a starting city. New characters
are however still considered neutral regardless of this choice, without
alliegance to any faction or clan. They are referred to as Vagabonds.

Your new character knows no Kung Fu or meditation techniques. You should equip
them as soon as possible if you wish them to survive and thrive against the
hardships of The Land .
A Vagabond is any player character who does not belong to a clan. This could be
because they have not yet chosen one or, at higher levels, because they have
been expelled from one. There are Sifus (teachers) who will teach you Kung Fu
techniques as a Vagabond. However, these skills are quite weak compared to the
Kung Fu techniques you can learn from clan masters.
Each clan has it's own unique combat techniques that you can only learn once you
have joined a clan. After gaining the confidence of your Clan Elders, you will
eventually be given a chance to learn even greater Kung Fu by specializing in
one of 4 clan specific classes or Roles that offer different styles of play. The
Clan Elders will then show you the basic Kung Fu or Chi Kung techniques that
your selected Role can learn. There are higher level techniques available but
you will need to raise your level of achievement before the Clan Elders will
reveal them to you.
Each clan has it's own base or stronghold. This is where clan members can eat,
sleep, gather and train. The leaders of the clans reside here and will sometimes
offer opportunities for advancement.
Clan leaders may offer great wisdom, compete with each other in contests, brag
about the strength of their clan and even take out their vengence on those who
offend them! Their primary goal, however, is to recruit strong new disciples to
rebuild their clan following the devastating War of Nine Dragons.
There are many ways to make a living in The Land. You can sell any items you
might find to the various merchants scattered throughout. However, the prices
that these merchants will offer you are only a fraction of what they are really
worth. To get the best prices many players offer their items to other players by
opening up a personal shop, called a Stand, and setting their own price.
While it is true that you could gain riches just by selling items to stores,
your Clan Elders also expect you to contribute wealth to the clan. Sell and
trade items with your fellow disciples, and make Clan Contributions to the Clan
Elders of your clan when possible. Donating items to your Clan Elders will often
reward you with Clan Contribution Points, which you will need to trade for the
priviledge of learning clan Kung Fu.
Remember that the aftermath of The War of Nine Dragons has generated much
poverty and hardship in The Land.
Those in need can be found on every street corner. The elderly
need assistance to travel, parents seek lost children, and vendettas abound.
Helping others brings one good karma as well as Experience in
The Land, and Experience leads to mastery.
One may also find that the most precious rewards come from
simple acts of kindness.
How To Gain Experience:
A completed quest brings with it Experience, as does victory
over an opponent. After gaining enough Experience, one finds that they have
suddenly increased in their level (Cheng) of mastery. As you raise your Cheng
you will find you are stronger, faster, and less easily injured. One of the best
ways to gain Experience is to join a group of fellow warriors who share your
allegiance. If you find several people who have embarked on the same quest as
you, you will find your path becomes much easier to walk.
By the way, the number nine is considered especially lucky. So
good things may happen to a band of nine people.
Stronger than a general group is a Hero Band. This is a group
of players who are all from the same clan, and they can embark on special Hero
Band quests together, sharing Experience and Rewards as they travel. In the
battles between the clans the smallest clan unit is called a Hero Band.
The most important form of advancement you should pursue is
the development of your Kung Fu and weapon skills. Learning a Kung Fu technique
is only the beginning of your journey. To be effective you need to practice your
techniques in actual combat. Mastering an individual Kung Fu technique makes it
far more powerful.
While techniques improve with use, your Kung Fu Weapon
Mastery will be able to rise with Experience just as your character does. Each
time your character ascends to a higher level (cheng) they are given one Mastery
Point, which you can add to the mastery skill of your choice.
"Empty hand" Kung Fu is greatly praised, but if you wish to
master a weapon you will need to foster your Kung Fu Skills, your achievement
level, and your Weapon Mastery Points. There is an ancient proverb that says
"The edge of a skilled butcher's knife needs little sharpening". This is
important, because if you use weapons that are "beyond your ability" you are
likely to wear them down quickly, if not destroy them entirely.
You can create up to three characters per account in 9Dragons,
and each one can belong to any clan you choose (provided they meet the
qualifications).
Safe journey and may the seeds of The Dragon within you
thrive!

Leveling Up
Levelling up is how you measure your
character's growth in 9Dragons. Every time you perform a quest or win a battle
you gain some Experience. At certain points you are rewarded for this growth in
Experience by attaining a new level, also called a "Cheng".
There are currently 18 major levels to advance through. Each major level has 12
minor levels (or Cheng) within it. At the start of every major level you must
demonstrate new mastery of your Chi Breathing technique to
advance. These are the 18 levels of Cheng you may attain on your road to The
Dragon:
Level 0 None
Level 1 Losing Self
Level 2 Gathering Chi
Level 3 Opening Chi
Level 4 Revolving Chakra
Level 5 Raising Light
Level 6 Five Dragons
Level 7 Sun and Moon
Level 8 Golden Blossoms
Level 9 Elemental Crown
Level 10 Floral Crown
Level 11 Crimson Snake
Level 12 Golden Lotus
Level 13 Humble Master
Level 14 Little Master
Level 15 Hermit
Level 16 Projected Soul
Level 17 Dissolved Body
Level 18 Immortal

Character Statistics
Life
The most precious gift you have is your own Life, cherish it!
Your Life is depicted by the Red Bar onscreen. If your Red Bar
reaches zero points then you will reach near
death state.
Every character's amount of Maximum Life is different, and is dependent on many
factors, from how you disperse your Chi Points to special healing ornaments you
may carry with you. Constitution is the strongest critical statistic that
effects the amount of a character's Maximum Life. Points deducted against your
Maximum Life from External Wounds will reduce Maximum Life replenishment during
meditation, but may be healed with special herbs or by consulting a doctor at a
nearby clinic.
Vital Energy
Vital Energy is internal energy, also called "Chi" that you gather into your
body from the world around you, and from all living things, that you can summon
and use to energize your abilities. You need Vital Energy to be able to perform
most Kung Fu (physical attack) and Chi Kung (Energy attack) techniques. Martial
Arts Masters have been known to use their great reserves of Vital Energy to
perform what can only be described as superhuman feats.
The more complex the Kung Fu or Chi Kung technique, the more Vital Energy it
takes to perform it and the more damage (or healing) that it can inflict.
Unlike Life, Vital Energy does not replenish itself over time. To recover your
Vital Energy you need to meditate and reconnect yourself to The Land.
Strength
Your Strength score is an indication of how physically strong you are as a
character.
Your Strength determines your physical attack, defense and balance when
performing Kung Fu.
Strength is also a determining factor in the weapons you can use. You cannot do
much damage with a sword if you are too weak to lift it.
Essence
Essence is the culmination of your Chi and is a determining factor of your level
of Vital Energy.
The more Vital Energy you have the longer you can execute your Kung Fu and Chi
Kung techniques before reaching exhaustion. Once you have depleted your Vital
Energy, you will become as weak as a kitten. You must meditate to revitalize
your Vital Energy.
Wisdom
Wisdom is the culmination of your intellectual abilities and effects how well
you learn lessons.
Having a high degree of Wisdom allows that your Balance, Attack Power, Chi Kung
Damage and Dodge are all higher because of your greater comprehension of all
your techniques.
Constitution
Constitution is a measure of how healthy, robust and durable you are. A person
with a robust Constitution can cope with a great deal more damage than a lesser
being.
Your constitution level is a determining factor of your Maximum Life Score.
The higher your constitution the higher your Maximum Life Score and the greater
your ability to recover from damage recieved.
Dexterity
Dexterity is the level of speed and agility you can utilize to carry out complex
Kung Fu techniques.
A highly dexterous person has a greater success rate to both Strike and Dodge
physical attacks. It also increases ones chance of making a Critical Strike
against an opponent.
Clan
A Clan is a community of teachers,
warriors and disciples that share the same philosophy and goals.
Once you have joined a Clan you may freely enter that
clan's stronghold and learn that clan's secret Kung Fu techniques. However, you
will also be required to abide by that clan's rules and regulations.
Entering a Clan
Each clan has different entry
requirements. In order to become a disciple you may need to pass that clan's
entry test and/or have successfully completed various required quests.
Different clans accept players at different levels.
To join The League of Beggars or Sacred Flower one must
first attain Cheng 4 of Losing Self. To join Shaolin one must attain Cheng 6.
The Brotherhood requires a Letter of Recommendation from a brother disciple.
Both Heavenly Demon Wu-Tang Clan have several strict pre-requisites and one
typically cannot join until Cheng 8 of Opening Chi. The Disciples of Iron Fist,
Black Dragon and The Union of Noble Families are advanced clans that require one
complete the full training of one of the above listed six clans prior to their
secret initiation.
Bare in mind that joining a clan only qualifies one as an
Apprentice or Accolyte. To become an official Student one will need to complete
other tasks for the clan.
Clan Contribution Points
You need to gain Clan Contribution
Points from your clan if you are to learn your clan's Kung Fu and progress
toward mastery. You gain Contribution Points by
completing the "Road To The Dragon" quests or by donating items to your clan's
designated Clan Elder. Any Item can be donated, but each clan places a different
Contribution Point value on different items.
Your designated NPC Clan Elder will tell you what each
item is worth in Contribution Points. You can also donate money to your clan,
but they will only accept large amounts.
Your designated NPC Clan Elder will tell you what each
item is worth in Contribution Points. You can also donate money to your clan,
but they will only accept large amounts.
These are the NPC Clan Elders of each clan:
* The League of Beggars – Bamboo Master, Elder of The League
* Shaolin – Guanglian, Librarian Monk
* Wu-Tang Clan – Juyun, Truist of Wu-Tang
* The Brotherhood of Thieves – Deadly Tongue, Chief Council of Black Panther
* Sacred Flower – Celestial Crone, Sacred Flower Elder
* Heavenly Demon – Blood Magistrate, Secret Soul Lord
Clan Role
After passing the required tests and
achieving an acceptable level, you will be offered a specific Role within the
clan.
Consider carefully before choosing your Role. Your choice
of weapons, trainable Kung Fu and Chi Kung techniques, and responsibility within
a Hero Band will depend on your choice.
Once you have chosen your Role you will be trained in the
Kung Fu or Chi Kung techniques that best suit your new Role. Under certain
circumstances you can go back and select a different Role later (using Chi
reconditioning), but you should be aware that your overall abilities may be
lower because you will lose all Kung Fu skills you have learned in a previous
Role.

Clan Relics
As a symbol of your clan membership
you will be given a Clan Relic. Possession of this Clan Relic will grant certain
bonuses to your vital statistics, as shown in your character window.
As your rank within the clan grows, or upon completion of
certain important quests, your Clan Relic may be replaced with those of higher
value or greater enhancement.
Your Clan Relic appears in your inventory Bag like any
other item, except that it cannot be sold or discarded. You may have only one
Clan Relic equipped at any given time.
Mini-map
There is a small re-sizable map in
the upper right hand corner of your game screen. It shows where you currently
reside in The Land and offers information regarding those NPC (Non-Player
Characters) who wish to speak with you.
Red dots indicate the locations of NPC's, and if you
hover your mouse cursor over them you can see more information about them. You
can also zoom in or out on the map using the + and - buttons located directly
beneath the map. You can view the entire map by pressing the up/down arrow keys.
The - button at the top of the map will minimize the mini-map.
World Map
You can click on the Globe icon on
the mini-map to view the Map of The Land. Here you can see all the currently
available areas to which you may travel. Hover the mouse cursor over these areas
to view the connections.
Quests
The quests of 9Dragons can be easily
found by investigating the [!] and [?] marks on the mini-map. Quests are divided
Into five basic quest types, they are: Roads to The Dragon; Roads to
Enlightenment; Roads to Karma; Roads to Fate; and Heroic Episodes.
Road to The Dragon
The Road to The Dragon is a journey that can transform you into a true warrior
and leader of your clan.
Road to Enlightenement
These are quests that shall honestly reveal one's deepest motives to one's own
inner self.
Road to Karma
These quests effect the core nature of your relationship with The Land and those
who dwell within it.
Road to Fate
The Buddha preached that all life is one, and these quests explore how all life
in The Land may interact through you to effect your ultimate destiny.
Heroic Episodes
These quests allow you to test your newfound skills and gain fame throughout The
Land. They are often repeatable.
Kung Fu
Kung Fu is a martial art that allows
the artist to summon one's vital energy to perform feats of combat that are far
beyond the capabilities of an untrained warrior.
You can check how many Kung Fu techniques you know by
opening up your Kung Fu window (Shortcut Key:S). Kung Fu techniques you have
trained appear in color, and may be placed into a toolbar quickslot with a right
click. Any Kung Fu moves that you have learned, but have not yet trained at a
training ground, will be depicted as grey icons.
If you click on a Kung Fu icon you will get a description
of its combat specifications and additional requirements.
Levels of Kung Fu are called Cheng. The more you use a
certain Kung Fu technique the better you will become at it. Raise the Cheng of
your Kung Fu by using it to defeat opponents and you will quickly see evidence
of this.
Active Kung Fu techniques are those techniques you can
learn that consist of three moves when mastered, but only one upon completion of
your training. You will be able to perform the first move of the technique as
soon as you learn the skill. When you reach Cheng 3 and Cheng 5 of each
technique, you will unlock, and automatically execute, the second and third
moves of the technique as you witnessed them during your training. Once
activated, an Active Kung Fu technique remains the attack of choice until
manually discontinued.
Chi Kung skills, which utilize Vital Energy for healing
or for long distance attacks, will also gain power and evolve as your Cheng
(skill level) increases.
You may choose to limit an otherwise advanced technique
to either the first move or the first two moves. The desired number of moves can
be set or re-set by using the small arrow buttons located beneath a technique
that is registered in a quickslot, to the left or right side of the technique's
Cheng (skill level) indicator.
Using Kung Fu
To perform Kung Fu you must first
switch from Peace Mode to Combat Mode.
You will repeat a basic Kung Fu technique on a selected
target unless you cancel it. To use a Charged Kung Fu Technique, press the
shortcut key and you will see your Vital Energy flowing as you power up. Once
you release the key your charge will be cast. Most Charged Kung Fu techniques
require a cooldown period before they can be recast.
Smashing Kung Fu techniques are more powerful than Active
Kung Fu techniques and work in the same manner as Charged Kung Fu techniques.
They have specified cooldown times and once you have used them you will then
revert to your last Active Kung Fu technique.
Finishing Kung Fu techniques are the only long range Kung
Fu moves available to warriors. Pressing the shortcut key will power up these
techniques and once you release the key your charge will be cast. Please note
that Finishing Kung Fu techniques cannot be used if the enemy has closed within
a certain range.
Rounding Chi Kung techniques, like palm blasts, are
favored by Chi Kung users because they cast instantly and require no cooldown
time. Casting Chi Kung techniques, which may be even more powerful than Rounding
Chi Kung techniques, take longer to cast and require cooldown periods. Pressing
the shortcut key will power up these techniques and once you release the key
your charge will be cast. Channelling Chi Kung techniques are similar to
Rounding Chi Kung techniques because they cast instantly. Though once begun, the
Channeling Chi Kung technique will be cast continuously until it is cancelled or
until the caster's store of Vital Energy is depleted.
Learning Kung Fu
Kung Fu techniques can be learned
from either a Sifu at a local Martial Arts School or from a Clan Master.
In order to learn Kung Fu techniques from a Clan Master
you will need to have the required Clan Contribution Points
and achievement levels for the technique you wish to learn. Gain Clan
Contribution Points from a Clan Elder by donating useful items to your clan.
Check the technique's requirements by double-clicking any technique offered in a
menu by a Sifu or Clan Master.
Once you have learned a Kung Fu technique, you will still
need to train it before you can successfully use it in
combat..
In some instances, Kung Fu knowledge can be absorbed
through the reading of special books called Tomes. If you should be so lucky as
to discover such a Tome, see if you can read it and you may discover that you
have learned some new Kung Fu.
Training
Different types of Kung Fu require
different training methods.

Kung Fu skills can be trained at a local Martial Arts School or at a Clan's Kung
Fu Training Ground. Once you have learned a Kung Fu technique, make sure you are
equipped with the correct type of weapon, seek out a training dummy, and attack
it as you would an opponent.

Rounding, Channeling, and Casting skills can be trained at a Chi Kung Training
Ground. Once you have learned a Chi Kung technique, enter the training ground,
settle into a meditative pose, free your mind and concentrate on the revolving
target.

Finishing, Charged, and Smashing skills can be performed
without any training.
Kung Fu training begins when you double-click on a
training dummy. During the course of training, you will learn to unlock all
three related moves of a technique. Once completed you will be able to use the
technique against your opponents in The Land. But know that training is much
different than real world experience, Grasshopper. At first you will only be
capable of delivering the first move.
Lightfoot Technique (Hyper-running)
When successfully learned, Lightfoot
Technique allows you to run very quickly over vast distances.
Unlike other Kung Fu techniques it can be used while you
are in Peace Mode.
Once you have learned the technique, register it in a
quickslot. To use it, click the icon once and then press and hold the Left Alt
key on your keyboard. You can change direction with the right mouse button or
your keyboard's arrow keys.
Coordination
To efficiently recover your depleted
Life and Vital Energy you will need to meditate.
The time it takes you to fully recover will depend on the
type of meditation you know, and how badly wounded or depleted you have become.
If you are attacked during meditation you run the risk of suffering deadly
wounds equal to the amount of Life yet to be restored. Your concentration will
be immediately broken and you must quickly rise and defend yourself.
Deviant Clan disciples are prone to attack warriors while
they are meditating. So be very careful where you choose to meditate.
Masteries
Your Kung Fu grows much stronger if
you can master your weapon.
You gain one Mastery Point (to be allocated to a weapon
specialty) each time you character levels up one Cheng (an example would be
rising from Losing Self 1 to Losing Self 2). Each time you advance to the the
next full Level, you will gain three Mastery Points (an example would be rising
from Losing Self 12 to Gathering Chi 1).
You can allocate these Mastery Points to any weapon
specialty as you see fit, but it would be wise to match your preferred specialty
to your future Clan Role. If you are undecided, know that you
can reset these masteries when you choose your Role for the first time.
Chi Breathing
Each Cheng Achievement Level consists
of 12 Cheng sub-levels. At each new Cheng Achievement Level you will need to
learn a new Chi Breathing Technique before you can advance to the next level.
This increase in your Chi circulation will allow you to
learn newer, stronger techniques.
When you have advanced the full 12 levels of a Cheng, a
prompt to learn the next Chi Breathing technique will appear before you.
When you accept this prompt, a Chi breathing mini-game
will begin. If you complete the mini-game with minimal errors and within the
allotted time limit you will advance, if not, you will be given another
opportunity soonafter. Know also that those who complete the training faster
will be rewarded with extra Chi.
You may receive deadly wounds if
you are attacked during Chi Breathing, so please make sure you are in a safe
location before accepting the prompt.
Combat Mode and Peace Mode
You character has two modes during
play, Combat and Peace. To fight or use Kung Fu moves you must switch to Combat
Mode.
You need to be in Peace Mode to perform certain tasks
(such as reading a Tome or Opening a Stand). The Lightfoot Technique will
operate in either mode.
Switch between Peace Mode and Combat Mode by pressing the
Tab key or by clicking the icon in the center of your quickslot toolbar.
External Wounds and Internal Wounds
There are two types of wound that you
can receive in 9Dragons, Internal and External.
Untreated External Wounds prevent you from recovering
your full amount of Life during meditation, and Internal Wounds have the same
effect on your recovery of Vital Energy. The seriousness of your wounds are
shown as numbers to the right of both your Life (red) and Vital Energy (blue)
bars.
To treat your wounds and recover full Life or Vital
Energy you will need to request aid from an NPC Doctor at a Clinic, use items
which can be purchased from them, or seek a player with advanced healing skills.
Wounds occur in combat following Critical Hits from
opponents, or from being attacked during meditation or Chi Breathing.
Some monsters excel at inflicting wounds rather than
damage, so be on guard at all times.
Near-Death and Coma States
If your Life bar falls to zero you
will enter a state called Near-Death. Should this happen, pray for
enlightenment.
While Near-Death you will eventually fall into a state
called Coma. If you are in a group with friends, then one of them can revive you
from your Coma by quickly DOUBLE-CLICKING upon you and sharing their Chi. This
technique is called Reviving Chi Kung. You too can apply your Chi to assist
those who are Near-Death by administering your own Reviving Chi Kung with a
DOUBLE-CLICK. This can prevent you from having to return great distances should
you choose to revive elsewhere. If a friend revives you on the spot you will
lose more experience than if you revive at your Clan Base or at an Inn.
Coma state means you will lose various amounts of
Experience Points and then revive at the location of your choice.
Revival on the spot where you lay Dying costs you more
Experience Points than reviving at an Inn or at your Clan Base. So choose your
place of revival with care, rather than upon impulse.
Rage and Berserk States
When you score Critical Hits in
combat, small dots appear in the Experience Circle in the upper left of the
screen.
When the dots have filled the circle all the way around
you enter Rage Mode. In this mode your defence is reduced but your attacks will
do more damage.
When you are in Rage Mode you can choose to enter
Berzerker Mode by by double-clicking the rage icon within the Experience Circle.
This will lower your defence even further but will grant you exceptionally
powerful attacks.
Bags
At the start of the game you will
discover you are equipped with an empty bag. A bag is a place to carry items you
come across or purchase in The Land. If you left click on an item in a bag you
can drag and drop it. Right click on useable items in the bag to use or equip
them.
If you are trading with an NPC then right clicking will
cause you to sell the item. If you are trading with other players, right
clicking will move the item to an open trading window..
You can equip two extra bags besides the one you are
given at the start of the game. Clicking on the icon at the top of the bag
window will open the corresponding bag.
If you wish to move an item from one bag to another, then
simply drag the item over the icon of the other bag. The bag will automatically
open.
Temporary Inventory
If you are carrry items in the
pockets of a garment and that garment suddenly wears out, those items will
automatically transfer to your bag.
If this happens when your bag is full then a temporary
bag is created for you. You cannot put items into this temporary bag, and once
you remove items from it they cannot be put back.
If you quit the game in possession of a temporary bag
then you will lose all the items contained therein.
Items
The Land is filled with many
different types of items, some valuable, others priceless, many worthless. All
of them (except quest items) can be put in or taken out of an inventory bag or
storage facility by dragging them with the mouse.
Right clicking on clothes and weapons will equip them.
Right clicking on consumables, such as food or elixirs, will immediately consume
them.
All Clothing and Weapons have a Durability Score. If this
score falls to zero then the item is destroyed. To prevent this from happening
you should repair your items regularly.
Equipping Items
Item Ranking
Items are ranked by their scarcity and function.
¡á Normal Items: These are
readily available for purchase from normal Merchants or dropped by disciples of
Deviant Clans.
¡á Precious Items:
These items are superior to normal items. If you
are lucky you may find one. They can also be bought from the black market. Black
Market Merchants typically hide their whereabouts and cannot be spotted through
the mini-map.
¡á Precious Items of The Land:
These are even rarer than precious items, and are
karmically connected to The Land's well-being.
¡á Artifacts:
These are exceptionally rare. You would be very
lucky if you found one of these items and it could bring a great price if one
were to sell it.
¡á Masterpiece:
These are items made by master craftsmen and may
demonstrate unique capabilities.
¡á Set Items:
These are items that belong together. Individually
they are not very useful, but if combined they can become quite powerful. Set
Items may be weapons, clothes or accessories.
¡á The Jade Tablet of Nine Dragons:
Legends tell of the Duel Of Nine Dragons, a mighty
battle between the champions of each major clan that effectively ended The War
of Nine Dragons. Although the Dragons themselves have long since disappeared,
there are whispers that 9 lost pieces of jade, each part of a greater whole,
have been scattered across The Land. It is further said that each piece bears
the mark of one of the lost nine clan Dragons, and that each one has been
magically imbued with untold power.

Weapons
There are many different types of
weapons to be found in The Land. One can use any weapon that one finds but
without mastery over that type of weapon, it shall provide little attack power.
There are many prerequisites to handling a weapon (level,
dexterity, strength, training and mastery). If you do not meet the correct
conditions then the durability of the weapon is drastically reduced and you will
be unable to utilize it's full potential.
There are rankings for weapons that are dependant on
craftsmanship, design and construction material. For example: Short Staffs are
normally weaker than Bamboo Staffs, but Superior Short Staffs are stronger than
Bamboo Staffs.
You can attach ornaments (grips,
embroidery and tassels) to certain special weapons. These will improve the
capabilities of the weapon. All weapons have a Durability Score and if this
score is reduced to zero then the weapon is destroyed.
Clothes
Clothes are primarily composed of
shirts, pants, jackets wristbands, head ornaments, and shoes. Bags are not
actual clothing, but there are bags that are made to be part of a matching set
with certain clothes.
Any clothing item (shirts, jackets, pants or skirts) can
have a maximum of four pockets. You can place accessories with various functions
into these pockets. The total amount of pockets a character may utilize within
their combined clothing is currently 8.
Wristbands raise your Attack Rating, and head
ornaments raise your Dodge Rating.
You can attach ornaments (embroidery, insignias and
talismans) to special articles of clothing. These will improve the abilities of
the clothes. All clothes have a Durability Score and if this score is reduced to
zero then the clothes are destroyed.
Tomes
Tomes are special books you can read
that will miraculously give you instruction in Kung Fu. Tomes are not always
shaped like books, some are scrolls and others are wrapped into bamboo poles.
The actual Kung Fu techniques of your clan can only be
learned through your clan NPCs. However, should you find and be capable of
reading one of these special Tomes, you may learn some interesting new moves.
Wounds Treatments
You can treat both your internal and
external wounds by consuming a treatment, such as a
medicinal herb, or by visiting a doctor in a local town and paying him to Heal
you.
To consume a treatment, right click on it or put it in
your quickslot bar and press the correspoding key. Treatments will be destroyed
when used. It may take time for your wounds to heal, and you may not be capable
of consuming other treatments during that time.
You can buy treatments from any doctor.
Food
If you eat food then your recovery
rate will accelerate.
One cannot eat while in Combat Mode.
To consume food, right click on it or put it in your
quickslot bar and press the corresponding key.
Supplements
Supplements are either items that you
must have to perform a certain Kung Fu technique or items that amplify the
effects of a Kung Fu technique.
To use a supplement, right click on it or put it in your
quickslot bar and press the correspoding key.
Quest Items
You can only gain Quest Items from
NPC characters as you engage upon quests. They cannot be sold, transferred to a
Courier's Guild storehouse, or thrown away until the quest is completed.
Accessories
Accessories are small items that you
can place in your pockets. Each accessory has its own purpose and will work
automatically when worn. You can have up to eight pockets and each one can house
a single accessory.
Some Accessories may require you to be at a certain level
(Cheng) before you can use them. If this is the case you will not be able to
equip the accessory until you achieve the required level.
Craft Tools
You may acqure Craft Tools during
your travels in The Land. For example, there is a special tool called an
Ornament Binder, which may be purchased, that allows you to attach
ornaments to your clothing and weapons.
Ornaments
Ornaments are items which perform a
special function. You need to attach them to clothes or weapons before they will
have an effect.
You can add grips and embroidery to your weapons as
ornamentation. You can do the same for clothes with embroidery and talismans.
Insignias can be attached to either clothes or weapons.
Once you have attached an ornament it cannot be removed.
Ornaments that have a time limit will simply disappear when the time has
elapsed.
Deviant Clans
Deviant Clan disciples are aggressive
NPCs. They may attack alone or in groups.
If you are engaged in combat with a Deviant Clan Disciple it is worth
understanding that they have their own Kung Fu techniques and varying degrees of
mastery. This allows you to detect their strengths and weaknesses and develop
your own tactics against it.
Deviant Clan incidents can range from a single large monster of the Beast
Clan to several dozen disciples of various rank from a clan like Secret Shadows.
Usually, Deviant Clans are enemies of all players, but
there are some special circumstances where they may become allies.
Deviant Clans have many factions and most of them are in opposition with
one another. If you are ever in trouble this knowledge can be used to good
effect. Deviant Clans will sometimes choose to fight against each other rather
than against you.
There are many Deviant Clans fighting for dominance in The Land to fill
the power vaccum that arose in the aftermath of The War of Nine Dragons.
Currently, the greatest threats to the well-being of The Land are the Secret
Shadow Clan, Death Valley Clan, Valley of Hell Clan, Beast Clan, and The Clan of
Golden Coins.
Parties
A Party refers to a group of
individuals who decide to join their fates together for a short while. You can
have up to nine players in a party and you will become mutually aware of each
other's Life and Vital Energy. Joining a Party does not restrict your location,
you can come and go as you wish. Fight or flee. The location of your other Party
Members will be displayed on your mini-map as blue dots. The designated Party
Leader sets the distribution of all shared experience points and dropped item
rewards.
Duels
A duel is a combat between two consenting players.
You can duel using your Kung Fu skills and the results are recorded,
affecting your reputation(Good/Bad Karma). If you
stray too far from the starting location of a duel, it may be determined that
you have fled and you will concede the contest.
You can either choose your own opponent, or go through a mediator NPC, to
request a duel. A Duel Writ will then be issued displaying both contestants
approval.
The Duel Writ shows the terms of the duel. Once both sides have agreed then
the Duel Writ is sent to a duel NPC and the duel begins as agreed.
Function of Towns
Deviant Clans disciples tend to avoid
entering towns where Major Clans have settled or Imperial Guards hold posts.
You can find Merchants in the towns, as well as Doctors,
Blacksmiths, Seamstresses, Couriers and Innkeepers. You can chek-in
to an Inn to set your Revival Point.
You will find most quests within Towns.
Selling / Buying Items
Merchants will buy almost any item
you can find. You can sell an item to a merchant by right clicking the item or
by dragging it with the mouse.
Items thay you cannot use (due to level, gender or
incorrect clan) will be displayed in the merchant window in red. You can still
purchase them if you wish but you will not be able to use them.
Some items that you cannot yet use (due to incorrect
level or attributes) will have additional information displayed on them.
Remember to check the Clan Contribution Point
value on any items you intend to sell to a merchant. You may prefer to
donate an item with high Clan Contribution Points to your clan.
Couriers Guild and Storage
The Courier's Guild can offer you
unlimited storage of your items at a reasonable price, and it can also deliver
goods for you between their many storehouses throughout The Land.
In order to store items through the Courier's Guild, you
first need to pay a usage fee in gold. To cancel this agreement, you must first
remove all of your items from storage, however your usage fee is not refundable.
You can share storage between different characters in
your account.
Durability and Repair
All items have a Durability Score.
When items are used, they suffer wear and tear. If you are unskilled with an
item it wears out much more quickly. If you enter a coma or Near-Death
state your items will wear out even faster.
Items like weapons and clothing can be repaired in most
towns by a Blacksmith or Seamstress.
The rough Durability Score of an item is shown by
clicking on it. An exact Durability Score can be seen only during purchase or
repair.
Lodging
There is at least one Inn in every
town. If you talk to the Innkeeper, she will allow you to check-in and make that
Inn your Revival Point. By choosing to revive at such an inn, you can minimize
the amount of experience lost from dying.
If you check-in at a new town's Inn, it will replace the
previous Inn as your Revival Point.
Community System
There is a strong community system
within the game. Your fellow players help make The Land of 9Dragons a richer,
fuller experience. Whether you assist or defeat them, please act with nobility
and grace.
Trading
Items can typically be sold to
merchants, thrown away or traded with other players.
Double click on another player to request a trade. Place
your items in the trade window and click "Confirm". The trade window will then
be locked (red = not confirmed, blue = confirmed). The window will be unlocked
if the other party changes an aspect of the trade.
When both players have clicked the "Confirm" button the
trade is complete.

Messenger
9Dragons has a special Messenger
system. This allows you to add friends and communicate with each other in-game.
You can change your displayed online status at any time and can even set
yourself as "logged out" if you do not wish to be disturbed.
The Messenger system connects automatically when you
start the game, however you can change your settings in the community section of
your character window.

on the right hand side of the screen. Clicking on it will open up a chat window.
You can use the Messenger system to invite a friend to
join your group or to see their information.
Pigeongram
You can also use the Pigeongram
system to send messages to players who are not online. Pigeongrams received
while away from the game can be read later when the player logs back in.
Pigeongrams that have been read will be automatically
deleted unless you choose to save them.
You can send pigeongrammes to all members of a Hero Band by entering "@HERO BAND
NAME", where you type the name of the band after the @ sign.

Stands
Open a Stand
A Stand is a personal store where you can sell items to other players.
You need to be in Peace Mode to open a Stand. You can open a Stand anywhere in
The Land. All you need to decide is which items you wish to sell and then set
your price.
With an open Stand:
You cannot move from your location while you have a Stand open. Once the Stand
is opened, you cannot use the Stand Window to open or close the Stand.
Closing the Stand:
In order to close the Stand, you need to open the Stand Window and press the
[Close] button.
Your Stand will stay open as long as you are logged into the game. It will only
close if you close it, when all of your items have been sold, or if you are
attacked.
Life in The Land
There are many basic necessities you
will require as you travel, among them eating, drinking, lodging, and
meditation¡¦ but perhaps nothing is more essential in this dangerous world then
learning some strong Kung Fu. You are urged to find a local trainer and begin
your study of Martial Arts as quickly as possible. Mastering Kung Fu is the only
way for you to survive the harsh realities of The Land.
Once you have learned some Kung Fu, it is time to join a clan, seek a master,
and begin your real training. There are nine major clans in The land, each based
on actual historical clans. However, there are only six that new disciples can
join, which include: The League of Beggars, Shaolin, Wu-Tang Clan, Heavenly
Demon, The Brotherhood of Thieves and Sacred Flower. Disciples who have achieved
a certain level of mastery can later seek to join three advanced clans, which
include: The Union of Noble Families, The Disciples of Iron Fist and Black
Dragon Clan.
Elixirs
Elixers
Elixirs are consumable medicines that are rumored to have a permanent effect on
one's capabilities, or to even bring back the dead. They can be created from
herbs or from some other mysterious ingredients using ancient, secret methods.
Elixirs have been discovered for Strength, Essence, Wisdom, Constitution, and
Dexterity.
Elixirs do not always work and their effects are often random.
Sometimes Elixirs may have unforseen side effects. They are affected by your
physical constitution and blind luck.
You should make sure that you are in a safe location before consuming an Elixir.
If you have had bad luck with an Elixir then you may possibly return to your
original state by taking another one.
After consuming an Elixir, other Elixirs of the same level
or lower can be retaken freely.
By retaking Elixirs of the same level you can regain any capability you might
have lost. And then take it's own effect, which may or may not be beneficial.
Each level of Elixir has a different maximum amount of bonus.
You can maximize an Elixir's effects through the use of Supplementary Elixirs.
Supplementary Elixirs
These specialized medicines remove the side effects of Elixirs and maximize
their effectiveness.
For best results you need to take the Supplementary Elixir first.
There are Neutralizers that can cancel out the side effects from Elixirs,
Softeners that help taking the Elixirs, and Fortifiers that can maximize the
effects.
The Dungeon of Life and Death
This is a dreadful place filled with
everything vile and it is highly recommended that you avoid it all together. No
one sane would dare venture here. You have been forewarned by The Hermit.
Each of the Deviant Clans has a main clan base (such as Death Valley or the
Valley of Hell). If you can collect at least three relics from one of these clan
bases you can use them to open up the Dungeon of Life and Death. You must place
at least three relics on the altar in front of the clan base.
The Party Leader decides when to make the attempt to enter the dungeon.
The Dungeon of Life and Death has many descending levels, each fraught with
ascending levels of danger.
If you use the red bell relics you will enter the
dungeon on "difficult" setting,
If you use the green bell relics you will enter the
dungeon on "medium" setting,
If you use the purple bell relics you will enter
the dungeon on "easy" setting.
If you enter the dungeon on difficult setting there is a small percentile chance
that you will activate the High Rewards Setting.
Epithets
Epithets
An Epithet is a small sign shown above your character, below your name, in-game.
"Demon Accolyte" or "Sacred Flower Student" are examples of basic Epithets.
"Killer of Shen Mo" is an example of an advanced Epithet.
You can gain Epithets in various ways: duels, clan ranking, quest rewards,
defeating a boss, etc.
You can only use one Epithet at a time, regardless of how many you have.
When you switch between Epithets, there will be a time delay before you can
switch again.
[Apply] Button
Your Epithets can be accessed from your Character Screen. Select an epithet and
press the "Apply" button to display that epithet above your character on the
game screen.
[Remove] Button
Press the "Remove" button to stop showing the epithet on the game screen.
[Delete] Button
You may only have a certain number of particular types of Epithets. If you
exceed this number then a random Epithet will be erased from your list. To avoid
unwanted loss of a favorite Epithet, remove all unnecessary Epithets with the
"Remove" button.
The Conqueror's Chests
A Conqueror's Chest is an ancient
treasure chest of unknown origin.
Legends abound of the treasures that can be found in Conqueror's Chests.
It is known that Golden chests contain more treasure than silver chests.
Chests can be opened with special keys that will be
consumed in the process.
If you are in a hurry, you can force a chest open without a key.
It is said that opening a Chest by force can lessen the rewards you may discover
within.
However, with the following special keys you can attain better rewards of a
specific type as follows:
Red Keys: Increased chance of acquiring a weapon.
Green Keys: Increased chance of acquiring clothing.
Blue Keys: Increased chance of acquiring accessories.
Good Karma and Bad Karma
Good Karma
Your Good Karma is a reflection of your honor in combat.
You gain your Good Karma automatically based on your battles with Deviant Clans,
quest completion and duels with players from hostile clans.
Bad Karma
Unlike Good Karma, an Bad Karma is gained by either
malicious activities or cowardly behavior.
Bad Karma is also affected by fighting with, or dying at the hands of, other
players.
Titles of Good Karma and Bad Karma
When your Good Karma reaches a certain level you will receive a title.
If you earn the same score for both Good Karma and Bad Karma, then the Bad Karma takes precident

Manuals
A Manual is a book that you can read
which will miraculously allow your skill levels to rise faster for a given
period of time.
The value of a Manual is determined by how effective it is in raising your skill
level, and how long the effect lasts.
At the moment, every clan trainer has Basic Manuals that
they offer to their disciples. It is a rumored that the clans also have more
precious manuals that are kept hidden. Note that one cannot use the manual of a
rival clan.
During The War of Nine Dragons the skill to make manuals
was lost. It is whispered that someone has now rediscovered the secret, but no
one has confirmed this yet.
Kung Fu Manual: Raises the skill level of the described Kung Fu
technique.
Clan Manual: This helps to explain the clan's underlying principles. You
can gain rapid growth in the clans Kung Fu if you understand these underlying
principles.
Role Manual: Kung Fu skills that are particular to certain Clan Roles can
grow more rapidly using these specialized manuals. Since these Manuals are
carried by students throughout The Land, and mortality rates are high, it is
more likely that one might find a lost Manual of this type while traveling.
Types of Duels
Duels require the agreement of both individuals. The Duel takes place
on a smaller Duel Ground.
Black Market
In many parts of The Land you may encounter dubious merchants who buy and sell
illegal items. They are Black Market Merchants and their items are typically of
uncertain origin.
Weapons bought through the Black Market can be cheap and of low-quality or
expensive and of exceptionally high-quality. Sometimes they can be superior
weapons with superlative history.
Binding Ornaments
(Adding Ornaments can give items many desirable attributes.)
Ornamentation refers to attaching Ornaments to weapons or clothes to gives those
items heightened functionality. Anyone can learn to attach ornaments but making
the Clasps to attach ornaments (or remove ornaments that are already attached)
can only be done by skilled craftsmen.
These skilled craftsmen will ask for payment and certain raw Materials to make
the clasps for ornamentation. There is also a chance that their work will fail,
and if it does then the weapons / clothes and materials may be destroyed.
Additional Clasps / Pockets
If you wish to have additional clasps or pockets added to your weapons or
clothes then these same skilled craftsmen can do that as well. The possibility
remains that their work will fail, and if it does then the weapons / clothes and
materials may be destroyed.
Removing Ornaments
The craftsman will charge a fee to return an item to it's original state, but
know that this process will destroy the Ornaments. For an additional fee and
some extra materials, the Ornaments can be seperated and used again.
There is also a risk of failure when seperating Ornaments.
Weapon Refinement
Refining a weapon with special raw materials can raise that weapon's basic
stats.
For a price, a skilled craftsman can take a normal weapon and craft it into a
superior weapon with additional capabilities. The extent of these changes vary
by weapon type.

The Master Refiner is Mo Tailan, who runs his own refinement shop in Heifei.
Max Refine Effect you can do at Mo tailan is +15
You can use a +1 or +2 scroll to add 2 more refine levels to your weapon
To have Mo Tailan refine a weapon for you, you should bring her the required fee
and the requested materials. The more you refine a weapon the higher the quality
of materials you will need. Most materials can be acquired by trading Blood
Essence (sometimes referred to as The Blood of The Dragon) to merchants who
carry refinement materials. Mo Tailan will tell you what she requires.
Know that there is a risk to refinement, even with a craftsman as skilled as Mo
Tailan. There is a small chance that the weapon will be destroyed in the
process. However, if Mo Tailan succeeds, your weapon will become far more
powerful.
If you refine a weapon to a very high level with Dragon's Blood it will generate
a powerful aura of illumination.

¨ç Refinement of Normal Weapons
The advantage of attempting to refine normal weapons is that they have a higher
success rate and lower chance of being destroyed. However, even if they are
refined many times to maximize their attack power, their basic properites never
change. Their advantage also makes them less valuable than other types of
weapons.
¨è Refinement of Precious Items and Artifacts
Precious items are more difficult to refine than normal items, but they can be
refined with the same materials. These are much more valuable because they often
gain additional functions after refinement.
¨é Other Weapons
Weapons that bear the names of famous people are precious items. It would be
unfortunate to destroy such a special weapon by risking refinement, but it also
presents an opportunity to create a truly unique weapon.
¨ê Items that Cannot Be Refined
Refiners will not refine weapons that are already very powerful or rare. It is
an unwritten law between refiners because they fear that they might accidentally
destroy a precious weapon. None of them wish to risk the disgrace of destroying
a famous weapon.
Additionally, high level items may have already achieved their maximum power.
Talk to the refiner to find out if a weapon can be refined.
Refinement Material
Refinement materials are made from the careful extraction of Blood Essence. Give
Blood Essence to a merchant and he will trade you the materials you require.
Although it is rare, you may find Blood Essence carried by disciples of Deviant
Clans.
Hero Bands
A Hero Band is a group formed by
members of the same clan who wish to share their fortune and destiny for a time.
Within the band there is a Hero Band Leader (who has either created the band or
been appointed by a former Leader) and several normal members.
¿µHero Bands have the advantage of convenient systems like special pigeongrams
and hero announcements. You will find that many hands make light work,
especially when it comes to attacking powerful monsters.
Creating a Hero Band
In order to form a Hero Band, you need to have achieved Cheng 1 of Raising Light
and to have finished the Road Of Heroes quest.
After completing the Road Of Heroes quest, you can talk to the clan¡¯s NPC in
charge of creating Hero Bands.
To do this, you will need at least five members to become the founding members
and a specified amount of Contribution Points.
Only a Party Leader has the right to create a Hero Band, and the Party Leader
will automatically become the Hero Band Master.
You are free to name the Hero Band anything you wish (within reason and good
taste). But be warned, it cannot be renamed unless it is first disbanded and
reformed.
Joining a Hero Band
In order to join a Hero Band, you need to be invited by the acting Leader or the
Master. The Leader is the designated player character who is currently in charge
of the Hero Band and the Master is the player who initially formed the Hero
Band.
Only the Hero Band Leader and Master are authorized to invite others. Once you
accept an invitation from a Leader or Master you will be registered as a Member.
Once you become a Member, you will be automatically registered in the community
window. You can press the [V] key to view information about your Hero Band and
its Members.
Hero Announcement
Hero Announcement is an announcement made within a Hero Band.
The Leader and Master are authorized to write Announcements. They can do so by
clicking [Write] and [Edit] buttons.
The Announcement will be shown to all Hero Band Members.
Hero Pigeongram refers to Pigeongrams meant for all Hero Band Members.

When sending a Pigeongram, enter "@HERO BAND NAME" in the "receiving" section to
send Pigeongrams to all members of the Hero Band.
Hero Pigeongrams are written in green to distinguish them from regular
Pigeongrams.
Ambrosias
Ambrosias
Ambrosias are very rare and mysterious medicinal remedies.
Taking an ambrosia will temporarily raise your stats to extreme levels.
Ambrosias typically do not last for very long, so try to not be in a middle of a
life or death battle when one runs out!
Scrolls and Books
Scrolls, books, and notes can be
opened with a click of the right mouse button.
³»The content could be anything from a love poem to a secret clan order.
These items are typically well worth investigating.
Black and White Clans Wars
Every saturday at 17:00 Server time in Bloody Plain.
Every Sunday at 16:00 Server time in Bloody Plain.
Collecting Materials
The raw materials that can be found in The Land are varied and plentiful.
It is well worth your while to collect certain raw materials as there are NPCs
who will buy collections from you for tremendous amounts of gold, or they may
exchange something even more valuable.
You can check the status of your material collections by pressing the (L) key.
Collecting Collectibles
You may also find some collectible items while you travel The Land. These items
have a rich history and that makes them quite valuable. Wan Daye, a collector
who resides in the Heifei Marketplace is a conesseur of such trinkets.
If you take your collections to Wan Daye he will exchange them for items of
great value.
You can check the status of your collectables by pressing the (L) key.
Healing
You can pay any town's Doctor to heal your internal or external wounds, and he
can also sell you treatments which will allow you to heal yourself while you are
traveling.
Each time you travel you run the risk of being wounded in battle. External
wounds will lessen your Life and internal wounds will reduce your Vital Essence.
Unless these wounds are treated and healed you will not be able to raise your
Life or Vital Energy to their maximum scores.
Consume a self-treatment or visit a Doctor at a local Clinic to have your wounds
healed.
Masks
Within the game it is possible to wear a Mask. Masks are used to hide one's
identity from others. While wearing a mask, you can hide your name, clan, and
level from anyone outside your Party.
[Wear Mask]
Masks can be purchased from Black Market Merchants. You can see the mask in the
bag window, and you can put them on by either double-clicking or right-clicking
them.
[Remove Mask]
You can remove both your own mask or a mask worn by someone else.
Here are
the methods:
[Remove My Mask]
While you are wearing a mask, it will be displayed as an icon in the upper-left
corner of the screen.
Right click on this icon to remove the mask you are wearing.

[Remove Other¡¯s Mask]
In order to remove someone else's mask, you need to learn a Kung Fu technique
called "Revealing Hand Maneuver". You can learn this technique from a Sifu in
towns near clan strongholds.
Player Kill (PK)
Player Kill Mode (PK) means that you do not have to request a Duel to begin
combat with another player, so you can virtually attack any player within range
without warning.
You can log into 9Dragons on a designated Player Killer Server where the entire
map is a PK zone, or a Pleasant Server where dueling rules apply and PK only
exists in areaes Such as Bloody Plain, Nanchang, Hangzhou, etc.
On every Pleasant Server there is a special location in the game exclusively for
PK. It is called Bloody Plain, and it is where the final Duel of Nine Dragons
was fought. In this location you can PK with anyone apart from members of your
own clan or party. If you wish to fight members of your own clan you will need
to wear a mask.
However, if the mask is removed by another player using their Revealing Hands
Technique then for a limited period of time you will be given "Clan Public
Enemy" status and can be attacked without restricition.
Blood Essence Point
Blood Essence Points are prerequisites for earning Blood Essence.
Blood Essence Points are the collectible blood from battles or hunting.
After collecting enough Blood Essence Point(999points) it can be exchanged for
one Blood Essence.
